Well, we know this can be a huge task for both mom and dad to be.

Even more so if a healthy lifestyle is not already part of your routine.

, there are a few natural ways to increase your fertility and become pregnant.

Try and include these into your daily life and we are sure you will see some good results

I love telling my mums to be about “fertility boosters”. These may sound really obvious when talking about the different things that a mom and dad to- be can do.

In my integrative clinic, I always try and include natural ways for our bodies to detox. Be it from stress or from a poor diet. What has detox got to do with becoming pregnant I hear you say? The key is, to increase the chances of becoming pregnant,  we need to make sure your body is ready for pregnancy.

What do I mean by that? Being pregnant is a gift. No one can deny that. So where we can, would we not want our babies to have the best foundations to grow and thrive?

But in general, it’s all about giving you and your bundle of joy to be the best start.

1. Less Stress 

In order to prepare and to increase the chances of becoming pregnant, I suggest creating a suitable environment. As your stress levels increase, your chances of getting pregnant decrease. Hormonal changes occur when you feel stressed. Namely the  “flight or fight” response with increased levels of cortisol.

Working long hours, stressful commutes, and jobs can also increase the time it takes you to become pregnant.

One study found that 30% of women who attend fertility clinics suffered from stress, anxiety, and depression.

Therefore, look into ways to reduce stress. Take up activities that make you feel better such as walking in nature, having regular massages, or take up a meditation routine.

2. Increase natural folic acid and vitamins sources with the “Fertility Diet”

“You are what you eat” is of great importance and even more so when starting a family. There are huge benefits of eating natural whole foods, known as the “Fertility diet”.

Firstly, it helps to provide your body with vitamins and minerals that support healthy egg and sperm.

By providing the correct fats and including dark leafy greens and vegetables in your diet, the amounts of natural folic acid, calcium, Vitamin C, D, E, and iron automatically increase.

Secondly, by supporting the balance of hormones in the body, the chances of conception increases. Dark leafy greens, nuts, and legumes are rich in folic acid and vitamins.

Where possible try and eat organic produce. Some conventional produce CAN contain herbicides and pesticides.  These negatively affect both male and female fertility.

3.  Reduce Alcohol intake

Any fertility expert will inform you that high alcohol intake can impair your chances of conception and affect fertility. So what is the amount per week that can have this negative intake? A large observational study found that drinking more than 8 drinks per week was associated with difficulties and a longer duration of becoming pregnant.

Other studies have found that drinking even five or less alcoholic drinks per week was associated with reduced fertility.

I always inform my mums that a high intake of alcohol can be associated with neuro-development delays and difficulties in the unborn fetus. So be prepared to stop alcohol if you want to give yourself the best chance to conceive.

4. Detox Mind-Body 

The science of Ayurveda is known as the sister science to Yoga. It encourages a “cleanse” before beginning your journey into parenthood.

This is not just a physical cleanse of “toxins” but a spiritual and mental one too. Learn to release emotional blockages. Thoughts and emotions are stored from our past experiences as most of these thoughts are blocking our progression. We can improve our chances of conceiving by using visualization techniques and imagining ourselves as pregnant.

Be kind to yourself with your thoughts and actions. 

The physical cleanse allows toxins that have built up over the years from faulty foods.  Negative experiences and traumas in life are released and expelled, creating healthy egg and sperm production and a welcoming environment for baby.

Many everyday diet intakes such as caffeine, sugar, carbonated drinks, soy foods, etc

These may negatively affect fertility as hormonal levels are disrupted, so women trying to get pregnant may want to limit their intake of the above.

5. Include a multivitamin supplement 

Studies have found the benefits of increasing your dietary supplement of certain vitamins alongside natural food sources intake. These include small amounts of chaste berry and vitamin B6.

Your chances of conception increase as the ovulatory fertility phase of your menstrual cycle increases. Some of our food sources can have all the natural goodness and nutritional value stripped away due to pesticides.

So increase your fertility chances by including a good multivitamin in your diet a good three months before family planning.
